Sinner moves into the second round in Barletta

The 17-year-old from Puster prevailed in his first round match against the Italian Gian Marco Moroni (ATP 231) after two hours of play with 0:6, 6:4 and 6:1. In the second round, Sinner will face No. 7 seed and 173 in the world, Andrea Arnaboldi.

Sinner had to narrowly admit defeat in the third set against the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz Garfia at the Challenger in Alicante last week after 16 successes in a row and three tournament wins (Challenger Bergamo, $25.000 tournaments in Trento and Santa Margherita di Pula). On Monday, the man from Sexten, who has now climbed to number 316 in the ATP rankings, returned to the road to success.

And that despite the fact that Sinner started very slowly against Moroni and didn't find his way into the game at all in the first set. After just over half an hour, this period of the game went to Moroni with a score of 6-0. In the second set, Sinner played much better and took his opponent's serve for the first time when the score was 3:3. The 21-year-old Italian countered immediately with the rebreak to make it 4:4. Sinner then managed the next break to make it 5:4. This time he didn't miss a beat and served out to make it 6:4. This broke Moroni's resistance. In the third, decisive set he didn't score any more points after the 1:1 and so Sinner was able to use his first match point after 2:06 hours of play to make the final score 6:1. For this victory, the Pusterer gets three more ATP points and is getting closer and closer to the top 300.
