Sinner's master plan with the big names in the tennis scene

Number 73 in the world – at 18 years old. Jannik Sinner has amazed the tennis world in recent months. But the Sesto native is not one to rest on his laurels – on the contrary. “He lives for his sport. During the lockdown, he trained at home every day. This willingness to sacrifice is a fundamental characteristic if you want to become a champion,” explains his coach Riccardo Piatti to the Journal of Sport . At the same time, the coaching guru also emphasizes: “There is still a long way to go. Very long."

In order to continually improve, you have to compete with the best. That is also Piatti’s credo. In the past, Sinner has trained with Roger Federer, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Stan Wawrinka and Alexander Zverev. “Until three years ago, Jannik played tennis three times a week. Now everything is different. I want him to watch the big players and understand how they master the crucial moments in the game.” Meeting Nadal and McEnroe Sinner should now also learn from one of the greatest tennis players of all time, namely Rafael Nadal. “I spoke to Carlos Moya (Nadal's coach, editor's note). Jannik and Rafa will meet as soon as possible. His technique, his way of managing difficult moments and his mentality are outstanding. I want Jannik to train with him, talk to him, go out for dinner and compare himself,” says Piatti, laying out the master plan.

In addition, Sinner is supposed to meet the legend John McEnroe on his trip to the USA in August - when the tennis circus is supposed to pick up speed again. “I am in contact with him and we will meet in the USA. His personality can be very helpful for Jannik.” McEnroe, who has won 7 Grand Slam tournaments in his career, gets into raptures when he talks about Sinner. “He is the greatest talent of the last decade. He has the potential to win several Grand Slam tournaments. In 2 or 3 years he will be in the top 10.”
