Sinner's Master's Exam: What goes against Djoker?

When the draw was made in the princely state, tennis fans around the world were particularly keen on a match. It was the one between Novak Djokovic, the undisputed industry leader, and Jannik Sinner, the rising star in the tennis sky. However, the youngster first had to win the first round match against Albert Ramos-Vinolas to make this possible. Almost in passing, as if it were the most normal thing in the world, Sinner did exactly what everyone expected of him: He beat the Spaniard – and made the dream duel perfect. But what goes against Djoker? One thing is clear: regardless of the outcome of the game, the Sesto player can only benefit from this match. What is also certain, however, is that Sinner, with the self-confidence of a Masters 1000 finalist, will not give in and will try everything in his power to annoy the big favorite. The fact that he doesn't stand in awe of big names has been a fact since known for his magnificent performance against Rafael Nadal at last year's French Open. What do the numbers say? Djokovic hasn't played a match since winning the Australian Open - an abdominal muscle injury kept him out of action. According to the Serb, the strain has completely healed and he is 100 percent fit for the sand season. He has to, as playing on the red clay requires perfect physical condition. Although this is the surface on which Djokovic feels most uncomfortable, he has an almost extraterrestrial win rate of 80,1 percent. He has also won 15 titles on clay, including the French Open. To speak of a weakness would therefore be completely presumptuous. The fact that Djokovic is still unbeaten this season illustrates the dominance of the best tennis player in the world at the moment. Sinner knows how great his opponent is – and is piling deep before the eagerly awaited duel: “I trained on sand for three days, which isn’t much. “Obviously I’m not in the best shape now, in the first week on clay,” says the 19-year-old. At least he is satisfied with his match against Ramos-Vinolas. “I think I played a good game,” says the man from Sexten. His focus is now fully on the Djokovic match, which is scheduled as the second match after 11 a.m. and starts at around 13 p.m.
