Sparkasse Trophy 2017 with tennis ace Haider-Maurer

The tournament in Rungg is a highlight of the South Tyrolean sporting year. Everything started small in 1998. For the first time, TC Rungg organized an international tennis tournament - the satellite stage at that time was worth $6.250 in prize money. The tournament grew gradually. Today it belongs to the highest futures category ($25.000 in prize money plus hospitality) and is considered one of the best futures tournaments in the world. The good reputation in the international tennis scene ensures that the Sparkassen Trophy has an excellent field of participants every year with many “stars of tomorrow”. Simone Bolelli, Paolo Lorenzi, Andreas Seppi and Misha Zverev have all already played in Rungg.

Top star “AHM” comes to Rungg When looking at the list of participants in the 20th edition, one name in particular catches the eye: Andreas Haider-Maurer. The 30-year-old was in the top 2015 in the world in 50. A long-term heel injury then stopped the Austrian Davis Cup player for 19 months. In the past few weeks, Haider-Maurer has fought his way back to the top of the world – with a “protected ranking” of 63, which he can claim due to the long injury break. In Rungg, the exceptional talent is undoubtedly one of the title contenders.

In addition to Haider-Maurer, there are a number of other players that you have to take into account: For example, last year's winner Jeremy Jahn, the 19-year-old Brit Jay Clarke, who reached the round of 100 in doubles at Wimbledon this year, or the ex- Top 2016 player Matthias Bachinger. Last but not least, the star of Yosuke Watanuki from Japan (number 2 in the junior world rankings in XNUMX) could also rise at this year's Sparkassen Trophy.

Qualification: 48 instead of 32

What is particularly interesting from a South Tyrolean perspective this year is the expanded qualification field from 32 to 48 players, which gives even more young local players the opportunity to get a taste of professional life. A step that shows that the Sparkassen Trophy always focuses on the future hopes of South Tyrolean tennis.

The schedule The game is played all day in Rungg. Qualification begins in Rungg on Saturday (August 5th), and the main field of the best 32 players starts on Monday and with it the actual hunt for the prize money of 25.000 dollars and the 35 points for the ATP world rankings. The official draw for the main draw will take place on Sunday, August 6th at 11 a.m. as part of a morning pint.

The final is scheduled for Saturday, August 12th at 11 a.m. The double final will be played on Friday, August 11th.
