Sparkassen Trophy: Trocker and Cleva clear the first qualifying hurdle

Trocker (TC Rungg) defeated his opponent, the Italian Riccardo Merone (number 9 in the qualifying list), in three sets 6:4, 5:7, 6:2. The game went back and forth for long stretches, a series of service losses on both sides characterized sets one and two. In the end, Trocker, the more solid and physically and mentally fit player, deservedly prevailed. A great success for the 16-year-old TC Rungg player, for whom the dream of the main field lives on. On Sunday at 12 p.m. Juan Pablo Ficovich, number 7 on the qualifying seeding list, is waiting for him in Rungg. The 19-year-old Argentine was already at position 650 in the ATP world rankings.

Daniel Cleva also made it into the second round of qualification after his 6:3, 6:3 against Victor Haddad. His opponent in the second round is Giovanni Orandini, who won his opening match against Cristian Carli (ATP 944).

Six South Tyroleans are eliminated in the first round In the first qualifying round, however, it was the end of the line for the other six South Tyrolean qualifying starters. Manuel Bernard, Georg Winkler and Daniel Gitzl (all TC Rungg) showed a certain amount of tension during their performances in Rungg. Also not in round 2 of the qualification are Val Gardena's Jonas Ciechi (3:6, 1:6 against Francesco Ferrari) and Erwin Tröbinger (3:6, 1:6 against Lorenzo Schmid). On Sunday, the number 1 in the qualification will take part in the action, namely Gianluca Di Nicola, the current number 687 in the world rankings. He won the Futures ($10.000) from Frascati this year and is currently in top form. It starts in Rungg from 12 p.m. with the decisive qualifying round.
