St. Georgen and Bozen reach a draw

After the two opening victories in Rome against Ferratella and in St. Georgen against Bologna, the Pusterians had to play in Lumezzane today. On an extremely fast surface, the hosts were already leading 2-1 after the individual matches. 20-year-old Georgia Brescia, who won the $10.000 tournament in Ortisei in December and is currently ranked 419th in the world, swept Giorgia Polito 6-2, 6-0. The St. Georgen captain had been unbeaten in Serie A2 for two years and had won all of the last eleven matches. Today, however, she had no chance against Brescia. Like Verena Hofer from Val Gardena in the 1:6, 2:6 defeat against the 2.6 player Ylena In-Albon. Vera Ploner scored the only point for St. Georgen in the individual. The national champion beat Sara Cicognani (3.4) 6:1, 6:4. The Hofer/Polito duo also played great in the doubles, won against Georgia Brescia/Eleonora Canovi with a surprisingly clear score of 6:3, 6:3 and kept the Pusters on course for the play-offs. St. Georgen now has to play away again on Sunday against league leaders Faenza, followed by the last two home games on Whit Sunday (May 15th) against Palermo and on May 22nd against Park Genoa.

Serie B: Joy Vigani leads Bolzano to win points TC Bozen also shared the points in the men's Serie B against Canottieri Rome. The White-Reds have to thank the young Brixen player Joy Vigani, who first defeated the 2.4 player Alessandro Cortegiani 7:6(5), 6:1 in the singles and then the doubles with Philipp Köll against Riccardo Merone/Enrico Sellan with 7 :6(11), won 6:4. Stefan Knapp, Karin Knapp's brother, scored the third point for Bozen in a 6:3, 6:3 win against Enrico Sellan (3.1). Next Sunday Bolzano will face Stampa Sporting away in Turin.

St. Georgen and Bozen reach a draw

St. Georgen remains unbeaten in the women's A2 series. The Pusters scored a point in Lumezzane on Sunday and thus defended their second place in the table behind Faenza. TC Bozen also played a 3-3 draw at home against Canottieri Rome in the men's Serie B.
