Bonfiglio: Jannik Sinner moves into the second round

The 16-year-old from Sexten, who slipped into the main draw thanks to a wild card, won his opening match against the German Leonard Bierbaum in two sets with a clear score of 6:1, 6:0.

The junior tournament (Grade A) in Lombardy is, alongside the four Grand Slams and four other Grade A tournaments, one of the most prestigious and best youth tournaments in the world. 21 years ago, South Tyrol even celebrated a victory here with Florian Allgäuer from Pusteria. In addition, the German young star Alexander Zverev also won the trophy in Lombardy five years ago. But other prominent names such as the former world number one Ivan Lendl and Jim Courier have also won at the Alberto Bonacossa Club.

The young Sinner from Sesto, who has achieved very good results on the ITF tour in recent weeks, will face the winner of the game between the American Tristan Boyer and the Pole Wojciech Marek in the second round. Boyer is currently number 9 in the U18 world rankings.
