Jannik Sinner: “I want to be like Seppi”

Sinner, who moved to the “Piatti Tennis” training center in Bordighera, 14 km away, at the age of 650 and is looked after by the ace trainers Riccardo Piatti and Massimo Sartori (Andreas Seppi’s coach), is sure about his decision: “I I knew it would be a hard road, but I decided to go for it. The road to becoming a tennis professional is very long, but I really enjoy tennis and hope that it continues like this."

Max Sartori played a large part in Sinner's decision to go to Bordighera to train. “Sartori told me to go there because I could develop well here. We train every day, the facility is beautiful, recently remodeled and everything is perfectly organized. “It’s just fun to play tennis here.”

Tight daily program Sinner's daily routine is also precisely regulated: “We all have breakfast together at 9 a.m., then we warm up for almost an hour. We then play for one and a half to two hours before we eat together again. In the afternoon we have the same program, and we usually do a few strength exercises too.”

The young Puster player, who has already won two ATP points in Sharm El Sheikh and Heraklion this year, will continue to play mainly on the ITF tour for the rest of the season: “Compared to last year, I'm playing more this year, I've got that together decided by my trainers. The plan is to play in one place three to four weeks in a row so that you can find the necessary rhythm. Afterwards I always return to the training center.” “Seppi is a huge role model” Sinner, currently ranked 1770th in the world rankings, has a big goal: “I want to be like Andreas Seppi. He's been a huge role model since my childhood. To become like him would be a dream. I work hard at it and always do my best. We sometimes train together, it's an incredible feeling. Just seeing how “casually” he plays is sensational. One day I hope to follow in his footsteps."

The Sesto native also says: “I want to get to the top, that has always been my goal. Since I was 14 years old, I have been striving to become a tennis professional. At some point I want to be able to look back on my career and say that I gave everything for it."

The 1,88 m tall Pusterer says about his goals for the season: “The important thing is to play. I now have two ATP points, so I can always qualify. This year I will play more ITF games to keep the rhythm, but I'll definitely play a few junior tournaments too."

For the time being, Sinner isn't worried about a possible participation in the ATP Challenger in Val Gardena: “I don't want to stress myself out. Of course, if there is the possibility of getting a wild card in Ortisei, it would be great. I'll let it happen to me, but if it doesn't work out, it wouldn't be a problem."
