Munaretto show in Terlano

The 4th edition of the FIT tournament in Terlan gave the organizers their 4th participant record in a row. 150 players (117 men and 33 women) dueled on the 8 clay courts in the Weißweindorf over the 4 days of the tournament.

In the end, the two Munaretto brothers from Merano faced each other in the men's final. The younger Francesco clearly won 6:2 and 6:2. The 30-year-old dictated the game and opponent with his forehand. Mauro, who was slightly favored before the final, was hardly recognizable after his effortless victories against Tobias Gasser, Peter Gufler and Hannes Holzner and made many easy mistakes. The tournament winner had to go through 3 long sets in the round of 3 against Horsti Ohnewein and in the semi-finals against Klausi Waldthaler (both from the host club Terlan). The batteries were empty, so he took full risks in the final: “I knew I wouldn’t be able to last three sets in this heat. I applied pressure with my forehand and always tried to play Mauro on his backhand. My plan worked completely, he found no means.”

The victory of the Meraner broke the dominance of ASV Gargazon in Terlan, who had won the first 3rd edition. There was a favorite win for the women, Ruth Malojer won her third title in a row by winning the final against Maria Frühauf.
