Padovani and Pfeifer win the tournament in Eggen

Players from all over South Tyrol played in Eggen for nine days. In the men's category, Mattia Padovani from CT Ussa surprisingly came out on top. After the 13-year-old from Bolzano was able to eliminate local hero Christian Girardi 6:1, 6:3 in the quarterfinals and the Klausner 4.3 player Werner Baumgartner 6:0, 6:1 in the semifinals, he defeated the next home team, Markus Pichler, in the final , confidently 6:1, 6:1. Padovani didn't lose a set throughout the tournament and celebrated his first title in Eggen. Pichler, however, only had the upper hand in the third set in the quarter-finals against Gerhard Mayr from Algunder, while in the semi-finals, after fending off a match point in the third set, he was able to hold his own against Klaus Ladinser 6:7, 6:1, 7:6.

There was also a surprise winner among the women, Anna Pfeifer. The 21-year-old from Eggner, who lost the final against Valentina Rizzi last year, brought top favorite Consuelo Chelodi to her knees today with 7:6, 0:6, 6:3. Pfeifer was able to clearly hold her own against Lia Kleinrubatscher from Völs in the quarter-finals and then she made it into the final without a fight against Caroline Steiner.

Padovani and Pfeifer win the tournament in Eggen

At the weekend, the fifth stage of the “Dolomiticup 2018”, a tennis tournament in the 4th category, ended in Eggen with the victories of Mattia Padovani and Anna Pfeifer. 80 participants took part in wonderful conditions.
