Serie B: Rungg starts with two wins, TC Bozen plays a draw

In the women's competition, the Rungger women won 3-1 away at CT Montecchio, while the Rungger men's team shot Nuova Casale 6-0 at home. TC Bozen, on the other hand, played a 3-3 draw against Vicenza in front of their own crowd.

Even before the start of the championship, it was known that the two Rungger teams would be among the closest favorites for both women and men. And they lived up to their role as favorites on Sunday. The women made a perfect debut and won 3-1 in Montecchio. Verena Meliss from Kaltern and Pernilla Mendesova from the Czech Republic won their individual games easily, while Simone Kraner had to admit defeat to Cecilia Mazza. Meliss/Mendesova brought the final point again, winning the decisive double point.

The men's duel between Rungg and Nuova Casale was even clearer. Captain Manuel Gasbarri's team defeated the Piedmontese, one of the strongest opponents in the preliminary round, 6-0. The Spaniard Mario Vilella Martinez, veteran Marco Bortolotti and the two ITF players Alexander Weis and Georg Winkler gave Rungg a 4-0 lead after the four singles. Weis/Bortolotti and Rieder/Vilella Martinez then won the two doubles. A very strong performance from the Überetscher, who only lost one set in six games.

TC Bozen starts with a draw

TC Bozen, on the other hand, started the Serie B championship with a draw. At Martin-Knoller-Straße, Talferstädter and Vicenza drew 3-3. After four singles it was 2:2. Johannes Ager from Kramsach and homegrown Aliosha Bona defeated Alberto Orso and Samuele Buratto, respectively, while ex-professional Thomas Holzer from Kalter and Tobias Tappeiner from Paulsen lost out to Andrej Kracman and Gvidas Sabeckis, respectively. The doubles duo Holzer/Ager beat Buratto/Orso 6:1, 6:1, but Tappeiner/Bona lost the second doubles match against Sabeckis/Kracman 3:6, 3:6. So it remained a fair division of points.
