We know each other well and know each other's strengths and weaknesses. The fact that we managed to win in the end makes me very happy.” Now he wants to “keep looking from round to round”. Weis (ATP 905) from TC Rungg provided the crowning conclusion to the first round day in Rungg. In his “living room”, the Center Court, he prevailed after a tough fight against Lorenzo Frigerio (ATP 2) in 40 hours and 804 minutes. A great success for Weis, especially since Frigerio was ranked 375th in the world just a year ago. Weis' next opponent on Wednesday is Pietro Rondoni (ATP 426), who easily defeated qualifier Corrado Summaria in two sets in his opening match.

The tournament's number 2, the Brazilian Joao Souza (ATP 448), showed a flawless performance in the first round match against compatriot Bruno Sant'Anna (ATP 407) on Monday. In 1 hour and 20 minutes he converted the match point to 6:4, 6:2. Souza, who won the Futures in Bolzano last week, will face Italian Riccardo Bonadio on Wednesday.
