Tavernini wins CT Bauzanum youth tournament

In only three of the seven categories did the favorites live up to their role. The 3.5 player Samuel Greif caused a surprise. In the U14 category, the Kalterer player defeated Mattia Padovani in three sets in the semi-finals and then clearly prevailed in the final against top favorite Jonas Masten from Merano with 6:3, 6:3. For the girls of the same age, the title went to top seed Lena Untertrifaller from TC Rungg, who prevailed in the final against Lucia Panin from Kaltern with 6:0, 7:6(0).

In the U12 age category, however, the girls' title went to Merano. Laura Pecoraro retained the upper hand in the final against Vittoria Segattini from Arco in two hard-fought sets 7:6(2), 7:5. For the boys, Kilian Dallapiazza was once again at the top: the Ladin player defeated Daniel Lechner from Bolzano 6:4, 6:2.

The U16 final, however, only took place on Monday evening. The title went to Daniel Tavernini. The top favorite from Bolzano, who lost the final last year, brought number 2 seed Gabriel Gruber from TC Kaltern to his knees in the final this year with 2:6, 6:1, 6:2 in three sets. Tavernini had a bye in the semi-final, while Gruber was able to eliminate his teammate Lukas Palla.

In the youngest category (U10), Kevin Vinatzer from ATC Ladinia defeated Thomas Dallapiazza from Kaltern 6:3, 6:4, while Matilde Modena from Trento prevailed against Arianna Putzer 6:2, 6:2.

More than 70 players from the U10, 12, 14 and 16 age groups took part in the fourth of the 16 seasonal tournaments of the “Volksbank Youth Grand Prix 2018” on the CT Bauzanum tennis courts.
