South Tyrolean tennis festival ends successful season

Tennis state president Richard Weißensteiner was able to welcome around 200 guests at the closing ceremony, including sports state councilor Martha Stocker, VSS president Günther Andergassen and Andreas Mair at the Tinkhof from the main sponsor Raiffeisen. In his speech, Weißensteiner looked back on a very successful season. Andreas Seppi from Kaltern ended the tennis year among the top 50 players in the world for the eighth time in the last nine years and celebrated a sensational victory against Roger Federer in the third round of the Australian Open. Karin Knapp from Luttach was also able to confirm herself among the world's best again this year. With the Kalterer Andreas Seppi (ATP 29), the Barbian Patrick Prader (ATP 1338), the Bolzano Alexander Weis (ATP 1667) and the Brixner Manfred Fellin (ATP 1997) and Joy Vigani (ATP 2130) for the men as well as the Luttacher Karin Knapp (WTA 51), Verena Hofer from St. Ulrich (WTA 847) and Jasmin Ladurner from Merano (WTA 1056) in the women's category, eight South Tyroleans appear in the world rankings at the end of the year. Alexander Weis is new this year. Weißensteiner was particularly pleased that the number of members grew from 4500 to 4800 this year. Over 300 teams took part in the various championships this year and played over 1000 matches. Weißensteiner is proud of the five international tournaments that are held in South Tyrol: the ATP Challenger in Ortisei, the two Futures in Bozen and Rungg, the new $10.000 women's tournament in Ortisei and the youth ETA -Tournament in Brixen. “We finally have a women’s tournament, which was one of our big goals for this year,” says Weißensteiner happily. He honored the two referees Hubert Andergassen and Raffaele Scibilio with the Tennis Association's Medal of Honor for their many years of service. All 2015 national champions were then honored. 28 titles were awarded in both the individual championships and the team competitions.

South Tyrolean tennis festival ends successful season

The South Tyrolean tennis season officially ended with the traditional “Tennis Festival” at the Hotel Sheraton in Bolzano. All individual and team national champions in 2015 received awards.
