South Tyrolean tennis festival ends successful season

SC-Eggen President Petra Pichler and Tennis State President Richard Weißensteiner were able to welcome over 150 guests in the Kardaun Raiffeisen Hall, including CONI President Heinz Gutweniger, USSA boss Carlo Bosin and Christian Tanner from the main sponsor Raiffeisen. In his speech, Weißensteiner looked back on a very successful season. Andreas Seppi from Kaltern ended the tennis year among the best 50 players in the world for the seventh time in the last eight years and reached the Davis Cup semi-finals with Italy. Karin Knapp from Luttach celebrated her first tournament victory on the WTA tour in Tashkent in Uzbekistan in September. With Andreas Seppi (ATP 45) and Thomas Holzer (ATP 901), both from Kaltern, the Barbian Patrick Prader (ATP 1309) and the Brixen Joy Vigani (ATP 1716) in the men's category and the Luttacher Karin Knapp (WTA 54), Verena Hofer from Ortisei (WTA 910), Jasmin Ladurner from Meran (WTA 1051) and Verena Meliss from Kaltern (WTA 1229) among the women, eight South Tyroleans appear in the world rankings at the end of the year. Vigani and Meliss are new members this year. In total, the South Tyrolean Tennis Association has 4418 registered members in 86 clubs. 335 teams took part in the various championships this year and played over 1000 matches. Weißensteiner is proud of the four international tournaments that are held in South Tyrol: the ATP Challenger in Ortisei, the two Futures in Bozen and Rungg, and the youth ETA tournament in Brixen. From 2016, a women's tournament will also take place in our country.

Patrick Prader Italian champion of the 2nd category Patrick Prader and Laura Mair received a special award today. The tennis player from Barbian dominated the 2nd category Italian championships in Sommacampagna. Prader didn't give up a single sentence and was chosen as the Italian seed. The young woman from Val Gardena, however, only failed in the semi-finals of the national U11 championships. Like Yannick Sinner from St. Georgen with the U13, who was not present in Kardaun. All 2014 state champions were then honored. 30 titles were awarded in the individual championships, 28 in the team competitions.

South Tyrolean tennis festival ends successful season

The South Tyrolean tennis season officially ended with the traditional “Tennis Festival” on Saturday in Kardaun. All individual and team national champions in 2014 received awards.
