South Tyrolean tennis festival brings the season to a close

Tennis state president Richard Weißensteiner was able to welcome more than 150 guests, including his board member, TC Kaltern president Michael Palla, Kalter sports assessor Werner Maier, VSS speaker Franco Bozzetta, FIT board member Roland Sandrin and Stefan Leitner from Südtiroler Sporthilfe. Weißensteiner thanked Jannik Sinner and Andreas Seppi for their outstanding achievements on the ATP tour: “Seppi and Sinner have shown our young players that with a lot of hard work and commitment you can also compete internationally.” In fact, in addition to Sinner (ATP 13) and Seppi (ATP 98), there are six other South Tyroleans in the world rankings: Alexander Weis from Bolzano (ATP 530) and Manfred Fellin (ATP 1107) from Brixen in the men's category, Verena Meliss from Kalter ( WTA 567), Marion Viertler (WTA 860) from Schlanders, Lara Pfeifer (WTA 1409) from Deutschnofen and Verena Hofer from Val Gardena (WTA 1442, but she ended her international career in 2019) in the women's category. “And almost all of them have improved compared to the previous year,” says Weißensteiner happily. 20 percent increase In total, the South Tyrolean Tennis Association has almost 6.000 members (an increase of 20% compared to the previous year) in 80 clubs. “We are pleased that we were able to play in all the championships again this year, that wasn’t easy,” said Roland Sandrin. Weißensteiner is proud of the five international tournaments that are held in South Tyrol: the ATP Challenger in Ortisei, the $25.000 ITF Futures in Bolzano, the $15.000 tournament in Wolkenstein (from tomorrow, Sunday) as well the two women's ITF tournaments in Ortisei and Wolkenstein. All 2021 national champions were then honored. In the open category, Stefano Pinzan from Bolzano secured the national championship title against Daniel Lechner. Lechner took the trophy in the third category, while Nadine Vinatzer from Ladin won in the women's category. In the youth team championships, TC Rungg won five of the seven titles awarded. South Tyrolean tennis festival brings the season to a close

The South Tyrolean tennis season officially ended with the traditional tennis festival on Saturday morning at TC Kaltern in Altenburg. All individual and team national champions in 2021 received awards.
