TC Bozen remains in Serie B, St. Georgen still has to tremble

In the women's A2 series, St. Georgen played against TC Nomentano in Rome. After the clear victories of Gabriella Polito against Giorgia Marchetti and Vera Ploner against Katy Angelli, the Pusterians led 2-0. Then the 2.3 player Carolina Pillot won against Verena Hofer from Val Gardena 6:4, 6:1 and reduced the score to 1:2. In doubles, Hofer/Polito led against Pillot/Marchetti 4:3 and had a ball to make it 5:3. St. Georgen also used this, but the opponents protested because they had seen the net touch during the serve. There were endless discussions afterwards, including on the following points. Hofer/Polito got nervous, only scored one point and lost 5:7, 1:6. St. Georgen then no longer played in the deciding doubles match, officially due to an injury. Now the Pusterians have to play against TC Cagliari to stay in the league. The first leg in Sardinia will take place next Sunday, the second leg on June 28th in St. Georgen.

Bolzano rescued after 10 hours TC Bozen, on the other hand, will also play in the men's Serie B next season. The Talferstädter defeated TC Galatina from the province of Lecce with 4-2 points in the first play-out round and secured relegation. The match lasted a full ten hours due to rain interruptions. Stefan Knapp, Aliosha Bona and Pghuilipp Köll gave the team a clear 3-0 lead on Sunday in the state capital. Armin Sandbichler from Kufstein was already ahead 6:4, 3:6, 6:5 in the fourth singles against Paris Gemouchidis, but then lost his serve and the tiebreak with 3:7 points. Afterwards Stefan Knapp/Tobias Tappeiner lost against Gemouchidis/Stasi 1:6, 1:6 and so things got really exciting again. But Philipp Köll/Armin Sandbichler kept their nerve and scored the decisive point to stay in the league with a 6:3, 6:2 win in the second doubles match against Pierdanio Lo Priore/Alberto Giannini.
