TC Rungg wins U16 Italian championship

The 16-year-old Moritz Trocker from Völs and Sebastian Brzezinski from Bolzano, who will only turn 15 in December, dominated the national U16 championship this year. During the course of this season they did not lose a single match and in the three matches in Naples they did not drop a single set.

Rungg first defeated Junior Perugia 2-0 in the quarterfinals. Brzezinski defeated 3.2 player Tommaso Catorci 6:4, 6:4, then Moritz Trocker defeated Francesco Passaro (3.1) 6:2, 6:1. In the semi-final against Le Pleiadi Turin, the two Rungger players only played three games together. Canottieri Casale also had no chance in the final. Trocker defeated Alessio De Michelis (2.7) 6:1, 6:4, Brzezinski defeated the 2.8 player Lorenzo Reale 6:4, 6:4.

This made Rungg’s first title win perfect. In 2002, the Überetscher team with Mischa Wassiljew and Patrick Prader narrowly missed out on the U16 title, but now it has finally happened. It is also the first youth title for South Tyrol in six years. In 2010, Verena Meliss and Giulia Sartori from Kaltern were crowned U14 Italian champions in Perugia.

U14 girls take bronze Rungg even got a medal this week. The U14 girls Vickie Trocker, Sara Rizzolli and Anna Santa won bronze in Arezzo. After the 2-0 opening win in the quarterfinals against Cesano Maderno, the wrestlers clearly lost the semifinals against CT Giottto Arezzo 0:3. On Sunday they won the “small final” against Foligno 2-0. Rizzolli and Santa can still compete in the U14 next year.

TC Rungg wins U16 Italian championship

TC Rungg has finally won its first team title at an Italian youth championship. Manuel Gasbarri's U16 boys won the title at the Final Eight in Naples. Roland Meliss' U14 girls also came third in Arezzo.
