U14 Italian Championship: Rungger girls take bronze

This year, the U14 girls of TC Rungg were the only South Tyrolean team to qualify for the final round of the best eight teams in Italy. The games were played on the courts of Villa Carpena in Forlì. In the quarterfinals, Rungg eliminated Scuola Tennis Gigi from Bergamo. Lara Pfeifer (2.7) shot Eleonora Carrara (2.7) with 6:3, 6:1, then Julia Peer (3.3/born in 2005) somewhat surprisingly defeated the 2.8 player Sofia Maffeis with 7:5, 6:1. Pfeifer/Peer also won the doubles.

The semi-final against Parioli Rome was very exciting. After the two individual matches it was a 1:1 draw: Pfeifer defeated Maria Luisa Di Gioia (2.8) 6:4, 6:3, while Julia Peer had to admit defeat to Chiara Castellano 1:6, 4:6. This match was decided in doubles and here Chiara Castellano/Matilde Coen clearly prevailed against Pfeifer/Peer with 6:2, 6:2.

Parioli then lost the final for the Italian championship title against Palermo with 0-2 points, while Rungg won the small final for third place against Pistoia with 3-2 and secured the bronze medal. Pfeifer celebrated her third win of the day against Giada Rossi (0) with 2.8:7, 5:6 and remained unbeaten in this final round. Peer had more trouble against Aurora Fornoni, but finally prevailed 2:7, 5:3, 6:6. In addition to Pfeifer and Peer, Margherita Dapunt (2) and Aimee Matuella (3.5) were also part of the Rungger team in Forli.
