Surprises at the national tennis championships

At the men's open tournament, the two top favorites prevailed in the quarterfinals. After a marathon match, the 26-year-old Lukas Holzner from the Tennis Club Meran defeated Erwin Tröbinger from TC St. Christina-Wolkenstein in three hard-fought sets 6:7, 6:2, 6:4, while Tröbinger's teammate Michael Kerschbaumer against young wrestler Sebastian Brzezinski had the upper hand 6:4, 6:4. On Saturday, Lukas Holzner will meet his brother Mirko in the semi-finals, who knocked Aliosha Bona from Bolzano out of the competition. Kerschbaumer will play against Gianluca Gatto from TC Gemeinde Bozen.

Top favorites are eliminated In the women's category, however, Jeannine Hopfgartner and Silvia Saccani from ASV St. Georgen, who were seeded number 1 and 2, were surprisingly eliminated in the quarter-finals. Hopfgartner, national champion in 2014 and runner-up last year, had to admit defeat to the 14-year-old Marion Viertler from the Tennis Club Meran 6:7, 4:6, Saccani lost to Elisa Crazzolara from Val Badia, who starts for Kaltern, with 2: 6, 3:6. On Saturday in the semi-finals, Quarterer will play against 13-year-old Greta Zwerger from Brixen, while Crazzollare will face Teresa Schwienbacher from Merano.

Surprises at the national tennis championships

Traditionally, the national championship of the open category and the 3rd and 4th categories takes place on the clay courts of the Tennis Club Bozen in the first week of July. A total of 184 players will compete in these title fights. The finals are scheduled for the weekend.
