US Open: Bautista Agut is too strong for Andreas Seppi

For Seppi, the US Open was already the 51st Grand Slam tournament of his career, the 50th in a row since Wimbledon 2005. On Wednesday evening, the Kalterer met the Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, number 13 in the world and 11th in the world Seeding list. Bautista Agut celebrated his sixth singles title at the ATP 250 tournament in Winston-Salem at the weekend.

At the beginning there wasn't much going for the South Tyrolean. In the second game he lost his serve to Bautista Agut, who increased to 3-0 shortly afterwards. With the score at 2:4, Seppi was unable to capitalize on three break chances, while the Spaniard got the second break in the following game to make it 6:2.

The second set, however, was very even. Seppi secured the break in the fourth game to take a 3-2 lead. The Kalterer player continued to act very confidently in his own service and deservedly won the second half of the game 43:6 after 4 minutes.

In the third set, the Spaniard promptly moved ahead to 4-1. Bitter for Seppi, who previously carelessly missed several break chances. A little later, Bautista Agut won the set again 6:2.

In the fourth period, Bautista Agut took the lead 2-0 and 4-2, but Seppi equalized with two rebreaks to make it 2-2 and 4-4 respectively. When the score was 4:4, the Kalterer player even had a ball to make it 5:4, but the Spaniard thwarted this great chance and made it 5:4. After both players played through their games, this set went into a tiebreak. Here Bautista Agut clearly won 7:1.

In doubles with Adrian Mannarino For Seppi, the tournament in New York is not over yet. Together with the Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, the Kalterer native will face the duo Hans Podlipnik-Castillo (Chile)/Andrei Vasilevski (Belarus) in the first round in doubles.

For Andreas Seppi, the first round of the US Open is the end of the line. The 33-year-old from Kalter, who played his 50th Grand Slam tournament in a row on Wednesday evening, lost to the Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut (ATP 13) after 2:55 hours of play, in four sets 2:6, 6:4 , 2:6, 6:7(1).
