US Open: Sinner is about to move into the main draw

The 18-year-old from Sexten eliminated Croatia's Viktor Galovic (ATP 223) in the second qualifying round on Thursday evening after a highly exciting game and two match points fended off with 4:6, 7:6(2) and 7:5. Galovic started the match better and took a 1-0 lead with a break. Sinner then missed two balls to re-break in the sixth and tenth games and so Galovic took the first set with 6:4 points.

In the second half of the game, Sinner led 4:2 with a break, but Galovic was then able to equalize to 5:5. So this set went into the tiebreak, which the Pusterer clearly won 7:2. The third set was hard to beat in terms of tension and Sinner once again showed his class and his nerves. In the fourth game, Galovic took his serve and then pulled away to 4:1 and 5:2. In the eighth game, Sinner first fended off two match points from the Croatian, then equalized to 5:5, fended off two more break points from his opponent at 6:5 and finally used his first match point after 2:49 hours of play to make the final score 7:5.
