Verena Hofer/Simona Walter lose double final in Ortisei

Verena Hofer played her 7th doubles final on the ITF tour today, but missed out on winning her 5th title with Simona Waltert. The victory went to the Slovenian Veronika Erjavec/Kristina Novak, who were able to hold their own 1:08, 6:4 after 7:5 hours of play. Erjavec/Novak got off to a lightning start and immediately took a 3-0 lead. Hofer/Waltert reacted promptly and equalized to 4:4. Both pairs served their serve until it was 6:5 for Erjavec/Novak, then the Slovenians managed the decisive break to make the final score 7:5. For Veronika Erjavec/Kristina Novak it is the second tournament victory in a row, last week they also won in Solarino.

Simona Waltert (WTA 584) has the chance to take revenge for today's defeat tomorrow, as she is also in the singles final. Today the 18-year-old from Chur won the semi-final against German qualifier Nora Niedmers (WTA 1206) 1:20, 6:4 after 6:3 hours of play. Waltert was already leading 4:1 in the first set, the 23-year-old from Cologne was able to equalize to 4:4, but still lost the set 4:6. In the second half of the game, Waltert converted a break point to make it 4:2 and then finally closed the bag with 6:3.

In the final on Saturday at 11 a.m., Waltert will face Joanna Garland from Taipei, who benefited from the submission of Natalia Siedliska (WTA 579) from Frankfurt in the tiebreak of the second set. Siedliska won the first set in the tiebreak with 7:4, then missed a total of three match points in the second period when the score was 5:4 and 6:5 and finally had to give up in the tiebreak with a suspected broken ankle.
