Virgili and Hofer win the Open tournament in Bruneck

In the men's category, 29-year-old professional Adelchi Virgili, who is ranked 775th in the world, lived up to his role as favorite. After the clear victories in the quarter-finals against Brixen's Pietro Orlando (6:4, 6:0) and in the semi-finals against 2.4 Edoardo Zanada (6:3, 6:3), Virgili also defeated 33-year-old Barbian Patrick Prader in the final clearly with 6:3, 6:4 and secured the prize money of 600 euros. Prader, who eliminated Paolo Dagnino and Carlo Cataldi from Tuscany on his way to the final, had to be content with second place, as in the last two years.

The winner of the last three years, Julia Mayr from Olang, was not there for the women this year. The top favorite was the former professional player Verena Hofer. The 21-year-old from Ortisei, number 1 on the seed list, defeated Greta Zwerger from Brixen 6:1, 6:1 in the semi-finals and met another Val Gardena native, Laura Mair, in the final. The 16-year-old from Wolkenstein clearly had the upper hand in the semifinals against Sophie Walzl from Gargaz with 6:0, 6:3. In the Val Gardena final, the more experienced Hofer was able to assert herself with 7:6, 6:3.

Oliver Mayr and Nicole Gasser win 4th category In the 4th category for women, the “Kronplatz Trophy” went to Nicole Gasser from Niederdorf. In both the semi-finals and the final, she beat Welsberg's Lisa Marie Sartori and Lea Seyr 6:3, 6:2 respectively. In the men's race, Oliver Mayr from Ratschings clearly won the final against Lorenzo Montaruli from Lombard with 6:1, 6:2. The two top favorites, Adelchi Virgili from Fiesole and Verena Hofer from Val Gardena, won the “Hardimitz”n” open tournament in Bruneck on Sunday. A total of 243 players took part in the traditional Puster tournament this year.
