From Paris to London: How good is Sinner on grass?

In his young career, Jannik Sinner has played 86 games at ATP level, only one of them on grass: almost exactly two years ago he met the Chilean Nicolas Jarry in 's-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands, and narrowly lost 6:7, 3:6 . What is not included in these statistics, however, are the qualifying matches. In 's-Hertogenbosch he won two against Thomas Fabbiano and Lukas Lacko, while at Wimbledon and Halle respectively he lost to Alex Bolt and Joao Sousa. In total, the 19-year-old has only played on grass five times. That's why the question arises: How well does Sinner cope on the fastest playing surface?

This will be answered next week when Sinner plays at the prestigious ATP 500 tournament at Queen's Club. In London, the world number 19, who will lose four places on Monday, is number three and will face the British Jack Draper (ATP 309) at the start. The Londoner, who is the same age, received a wild card, has never played against the Sesto native and is the blatant outsider in the duel between the two youngsters. Especially considering that Draper only has one ATP match on his resume.

The South Tyrolean is also registered in doubles in Great Britain. With the experienced Spanish lawn specialist Feliciano Lopez, he will meet Daniel Evans and Jonny O'Mara at the start. It is still unclear when Sinner will play. What is certain, however, is that the tournament in Queens is the South Tyrolean's only preparation for Wimbledon. The third Grand Slam tournament of the year begins on June 28th. Seppi plays in Nottingham again For Andreas Seppi, the grass season continues next week with the second Challenger tournament in Nottingham. The 37-year-old from Kalter failed in three sets against Poland's Kamil Majchrzak in the quarterfinals on Friday. Seppi, who will appear at number 90 in the ATP rankings from Monday, is seeded at number 4 in Nottingham. Who the South Tyrolean will meet still has to be drawn.
