On August 8.8th Federer turned 40 - and it is still not clear when he will make his comeback to the tennis cosmos. Or should the question even be whether he will make his comeback again?

“I haven't done anything for a long time because of the knee. “I had to let everything sink in after Wimbledon,” Federer said now and added: “This week I’ll meet my doctors and my team and then we’ll see what happens next.”

He is skipping the Masters tournaments in Toronto this week and in Cincinnati next week. So far, Federer had firmly planned to start at the final Grand Slam act of this season in New York. The US Open starts on August 30th. Until then, Federer would still have time to concentrate his strength, especially since he is now timing his tournaments anyway. Since his comeback in Doha at the beginning of March after knee surgery, he has only played 13 games. Federer has to deal with a new situation “It’s like boxing,” he told the View and elaborated: “You have a lot fewer fights. The focus on a single game is therefore much greater. I had to learn that again.” The fact that he was willing to take this learning step and that he asked himself “tricky” questions clearly speaks for his motivation to return to the pitch. Serena Williams is also currently taking a break from the women's tour, but the 39-year-old also wants to compete at the US Open and make another attack on Grand Slam title number 24. But the umbrella organizations ATP and WTA have long been preparing for the arrival of the two most prominent faces of the last decade in tennis. They promote the post-Williams-Federer era with campaigns and the proclamation of a new generation. Joy of life not lost But it's not that far yet. Both have not yet announced their resignation or when they will do so. Federer said he “always sees the good in every situation.” He celebrated his birthday “casually” with family, friends, his wife Mirka and the children. Federer said he enjoyed dancing (“without people filming my moves and putting them on the internet”) and was “doing great.” “I'm totally at peace with myself and I'm sure that a lot of great things will come to me.” Whether on the pitch or after the end of my career wasn't clear from the answer.
