Weis is eliminated in the singles, but is in the doubles semifinals

The 21-year-old from Bolzano had to admit defeat to the top seeded Serb Miljian Zekic, number 344 in the world, 5:7 and 2:6 after almost two hours of play. In the doubles, however, Weis reached the semi-finals with the Brazilian Bruno Sant'Anna.

After his two opening victories against the Italian Davide Galoppini and the Bulgarian Alexandar Lazarov, Alexander Weis showed a strong performance today in his fourth ITF singles quarter-final against the 30-year-old tournament favorite Miljian Zekic, but it was not enough to advance. The man from Bolzano started the match cautiously and was immediately behind 1:4 and 3:5. When the score was 4:5, he fended off three set points from the Serb and equalized to 5:5. But then he had to give up his serve again and thus the first part of the game with 5:7 points. In the second set, Zekic pulled away to 4-0, then controlled the game and used his first match point after 1:56 hours to make the final score 6-2. Weis missed his second ITF semi-final, after St. Christina in August of the previous year.

In doubles, the man from Bolzano is in the top four, for the seventh time in his career. Weis has already celebrated two tournament victories in doubles on the ITF tour, both last year in Antalya and Rungg. Today he and Brazilian Bruno Sant'Anna defeated number 2 seed Alejandro Gomez (COL)/Michael Zhu (USA) 6:4, 6:4 in the quarterfinals. Tomorrow Weis/Sant'Anna will meet the winners of the encounter between the Hungarians Borsos/Nagy and the Romanian Cornea/Jecan.
