Weis fails due to French veterans

Weis from Bolzano, who will be celebrating his 24th birthday in four days, met local hero Vincent Stouff in the first round of the well-staffed tournament in France after surviving qualification. The 24-year-old from Brixen, currently ranked 1119th in the world rankings, beat the Egyptian Ashraf El Sayed 6:0, 6:3. He then benefited from the injury-related retirement of Sherif Makhlouf, against whom he had already won 7:6( 3), was 2-0 ahead.
