Weis and Fellin are eliminated from ITF tournaments in Antalya and Cairo

Alexander Weis from Bolzano and Manfred Fellin from Brixen played in two $15.000 tournaments in Antalya and Cairo, but were eliminated in the starting round.

Alexander Weis (ATP 821) was unlucky in Turkey. The 21-year-old from Bolzano, number 821 in the ATP ranking, won the first game in the tiebreak with 262:7 points in his opening match against the top-seeded Spaniard Oriol Roca Batalla (ATP 4) (after being at 5: 6 had fended off three set points from his opponent), but then lost clearly with 2:6, 3:6.

In doubles, however, Weis is still in the race. Yesterday the man from Bolzano and his compatriot Alessandro Ceppellini defeated the Turkish duo Burak Bilgin/Osmancan Soyler 6:4, 6:3. In the quarter-finals tomorrow the “Azzurri”, seeded number 4, will face the Dutch Mats Hermans/Bart Stevens.

For Horst Rieder, however, the tournament on the Turkish Riviera is over. After a 6:4, 6:1 in the first qualifying round against the US wild card Kaya Arinc, the 21-year-old from Völs (ATP 2020) was in the second game against the number 3 seeded Macedonian Gorazd Srbljak (ATP 1006) Final stop. Rieder lost 2:6, 3:6.

Fellin brothers eliminated in Cairo The brothers Manfred and Pietro Orlando Fellin from Brixen, however, were eliminated in Egypt. The 17-year-old Pietro Orlando Fellin started the qualification with a 6:1, 6:0 win against Tyrone Barrett from Australia, but then clearly lost his second round match against the 6th seeded Italian Davide Albertoni (ATP 1746) with 0 :6, 1:6.

Manfred Fellin (ATTP 1207), who is four years older than his brother, was eliminated in the first round of the main field. The 21-year-old lost to Frenchman Mathieu Perchicot, number 6 in the seed list and 494 in the world, 1:35, 3:6 after 2:6 hours of play. Sophie Walzl fails to qualify in Solarino The 19-year-old Gargazonian Sophie Walzl missed qualifying for the main draw at the $15.000 tournament in Solarino, Sicily. After a bye in the first qualifying round, she had to admit defeat in the second, decisive game against the Italian Martina Forcisi 2:6, 3:6.
