Wild cards for ITF in Val Gardena have been awarded

The women's professional tournament with prize money of 15.000 dollars will take place in Ortisei from November 4th to 11th for the third time this year. Just one month after the 8th edition of the Sparkasse ATP Challenger Val Gardena South Tyrol, which was won this year by the Italian Lorenzo Sonego, the great sport of tennis is returning to Val Gardena. The women's tournament has only been held in December for the last two years, but by bringing the Challenger tournament forward, the ITF tournament will now be held in November.

Wild cards to three South Tyroleans and one Azzurra

The organizers' four wild cards go to three South Tyroleans and another Azzurra. Laura Mair, the 14-year-old young hopeful from Val Gardena, Jeannine Hopfgartner from Brixen and Silvia Saccani from Gais receive a wild card for the main field from the organizers. The fourth invitation goes to the young Italian Benedetta Ivaldi, currently number 1157 in the world rankings. This means that at least four South Tyrolean women will be in the main draw in Val Gardena next week.

Local hero Verena Hofer already in the main field

Local hero Verena Hofer from St. Ulrich is right in the main field thanks to her placement in the world rankings (792). The former U14 and U16 Italian champion from Ortisei will play her first match on Monday, November 6th at 18 p.m. and will compete in doubles with the Swiss Simona Waltert. As far as the wild cards for qualification are concerned, there are six in total: they go to the South Tyroleans Elisa Crazzolara and Sophie Walzl, to the Azzurre Chiara De Vito and Luna Urso, to Klara Skopac (Croatia) and Zaklin Bokan (Slovenia). The qualification in Val Gardena will be played on the weekend (Saturday and Sunday, November 4th and 5th). Eight players qualify for the main draw, which begins on Monday, November 6th. The singles final will take place on Saturday, November 11th at 14 p.m.
