Williams reaches for 24th Grand Slam title

The 37-year-old American defeated Ukrainian Elina Svitolina 70:6, 3:6 in 1 minutes on Thursday evening (local time). In the final on Saturday (22.00 p.m. CEST/Eurosport), Williams will play against Canada's Bianca Andreescu for her seventh title in New York.

“It seems really crazy that I’m in another final. But I don’t actually expect much less,” said Williams, who equaled her compatriot Chris Evert’s record with her 101st victory in Flushing Meadows.

A Canadian as the final opponent Andreescu moved into her first Grand Slam final with a 7:6 (7:3), 7:5 against the Swiss Belinda Bencic. The 19-year-old became only the second Canadian to reach a major final in her main draw debut in New York and is part of a group of only six players who have already reached the final in their first four Grand Slam appearances.
