Wimbledon: Known opponents for Sinner and Seppi

The draw took place on Friday at the All England Club - and produced the following two matches from a South Tyrolean perspective: Jannik Sinner meets Marton Fucsovics at the start, Andreas Seppi meets Joao Sousa. Not easy tasks, but not impossible at the same time.

Sinner and Fucsovics have dueled twice so far. The first match was decided by the world number 49. from Hungary won in three straight sets at the Australian Open 2020. In the same year, Sinner achieved revenge in Sofia when he shot Fucsovics 6:2 and 6:4 and subsequently won his first ATP title. The balance is balanced, so a close match can be expected. Should Sinner clear the Fucsovics hurdle, he will face either the turf specialist Jiri Vesely (ATP 71) or the German Yannick Hanfmann (ATP 99). Experienced duel Seppi and the 32-year-old Sousa have fought four duels at ATP level in their careers, with the world number 120. from Portugal won the first two duels. In the last two matches, which were played on hard courts and are therefore meaningful, the Kalter veteran retained the upper hand. But these games were three years ago. Despite this balanced balance, grass lover Seppi is to be favored, especially since Sousa feels much more comfortable on the slower sand. In the event of a win, either the qualifier Denis Kudla (ATP 37) or the Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina, who is seeded at number 114, will be waiting for the 30-year-old.

The top favorite at the All England Tennis Championships is Novak Djokovic. With his third major victory this year, he could not only stay on course for the Grand Slam, but also draw level with the Swiss Roger Federer and the Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the all-time major rankings for men. With 19 triumphs, he is only one short of Nadal, who is absent in London, and the eight-time Wimbledon winner Federer. At the start, Djokovic has to face wildcard player Jack Draper (ATP 250), who defeated Sinner last week. Federer, on the other hand, is fighting to advance against Frenchman Adrien Mannarino (ATP 42).
