World number one Iga Swiatek has extended her impressive winning streak at Wimbledon. The Pole defeated Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove from the Netherlands 6:4,4:6,6:3 with unexpected difficulty on Thursday and moved into the third round with her 37th success in a row. The last time the Swiss Martina Hingis celebrated so many victories in a row on the WTA tour was in 1997. Martina Navratilova holds the record with 74 successes.

Top favorite Swiatek will now face Frenchwoman Alizé Cornet in the round of the best 32. “Adding another game to that number is nice, but when I'm out there I don't really think about it,” said the 21-year-old in the winner's interview. “I try to play tennis as best as I can on grass and then the result will come by itself.” Swiatek had already won Wimbledon as a junior in 2018.
