Wimbledon preparation: Kerber appears on Mallorca for the first time

Santa Ponsa (SID) Angelique Kerber is taking part in the Mallorca Open (June 18th to 24th, 2018) for the first time as part of her preparation for Wimbledon. After her promising results at Wimbledon at the beginning of the year, the 30-year-old from Kiel believes she has the best chance of winning her third Grand Slam title. On Mallorca, Kerber is the second top 10 player in the tournament alongside Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia. Last year, Julia Görges (Bad Oldesloe) failed in the final against Latvia's Anastasija Sevastova. "I'm really looking forward to the tournament. I love the island of Mallorca and the beautiful grass courts in Santa Ponsa, where I've had the chance to prepare for Wimbledon in recent years," said the world number nine. In 2016, Kerber had already trained at the facility and then only failed in the Wimbledon final against Serena Williams. After a disappointing year in 2017, Kerber recently found her way back to her old strength and celebrated her first tournament victory since the US Open 2016 at the WTA tournament in Sydney. At the Australian Open she only failed in the semifinals against the then world number one Simona Halep.
