Winston-Salem: Seppi celebrates his comeback against Berdych

The 35-year-old from Kalteren will compete in the ATP 250 tournament in Winston-Salem (USA) from Sunday, where he will meet the Czech Tomas Berdych, number 103 in the world, in the first round.

For Seppi, the tournament in North Carolina is also the dress rehearsal for the last Grand Slam tournament of the year, the US Open, which begins on August 26th in New York. In Winston-Salem the “Azzurro” was unlucky in the draw. In the first round, Seppi will face Tomas Berdych, who received a wild card from the organizers. The 33-year-old Czech superstar has slipped to 103rd place in the ATP computer, but is still one of the absolute tennis elite and was even number 4 in the world four years ago. From July 2010 to the end of October 2016 he was always in the top ten of the world rankings, which is incredibly strong.

Seppi and Berdych have already faced each other 10 times So far, Kalterer and Berdych have faced each other ten times in their careers. Seppi won two duels, in 2005 in Palermo and three years later at the Masters 1000 in Cincinnati, while the Czech won eight times. The last time they faced each other was in Rotterdam in 2015, where Berdych came out on top in three sets. Serb Filip Krajinovic, seeded number 8, awaits the winner of the Seppi-Berdych match in the second round.

Seppi is taking part in the Winston-Salem tournament for the sixth time this year. The Kalterer achieved his best result five years ago, where he made it to the quarter-finals, but then lost to Taiwan's Yen-Hsun Lu 4:6, 4:6. Last year the South Tyrolean came to the end in the second round, where he had to admit defeat to the Chilean Nicolas Jarry in two sets. Seppi, currently 78th in the world rankings, has to defend 10 ATP points in Winston-Salem.
