WTA Baku: Almost failed in the semi-finals after a marathon match

Karin Knapp had the chance to reach the final of a WTA tournament for the second time in a row in Baku after making it to the final in Bad Gastein last week. However, she got off to a false start against the current number 112 in the world, Margarita Gasparyan, and was quickly 0-3 behind after two breaks against her. After a re-break to 1:3, Knapp got back to 2:3 and 3:4, but had to accept another loss of serve at 3:5 and lost the first set 3:6.

False start in the second set too The second half of the game started just as catastrophically as the first for the Luttachian, with Gasparyan pulling away to 4-0 after two breaks. Knapp then pulled himself together and managed to equalize 4-4 with four points in a row. After another break to make it 6:5, she safely served to equalize the set at 7:5.

In the final third set, Karin Knapp took the lead 2-0 after a lightning start and was able to maintain this lead until the score was 3-1. After that, however, the Luttacher completely lost the thread and was no longer able to win a game, so Gasparyan was sidelined after winning two breaks to make it 6:3 and move into the final.

By reaching the semi-finals, Knapp climbed to 34th place in the WTA rankings; she has never been higher. The 28-year-old will move to America next week and will not play in a tournament.

WTA Baku: Almost failed in the semi-finals after a marathon match

The 28-year-old Luttacher was eliminated in the semi-finals of the $250.000 hard court tournament in Azerbaijan. Knapp lost to the Russian Margarita Gasparyan in a true crime thriller after 2:32 hours in three sets 3:6, 7:5, 3:6.
