WTA Rome: Italian Derby Knapp - Schiavone

The “Azzurre” Karin Knapp and Francesca Schiavone, who both play in the main draw thanks to a wild card, will meet in the first round of the WTA Premier tournament in Rome (prize money of $2.729.240). It's hard to believe, but this Italian derby is a novelty on the tour, as the 27-year-old from Luttach im Ahrntal and the seven-year-old Lombard are playing against each other in Rome for the first time in their careers.
