Zverev misses the final of the home tournament in Hamburg

The world number five lost in the semifinals against last year's winner Nikolos Basilashvili from Georgia 4:6, 6:4 and 6:7 (5:7).

One day after parting ways with his coach Ivan Lendl, the local hero suffered another setback. The semifinals remain the best result for number two seed Zverev at Rothenbaum. He had already achieved this once in 2014.

On Friday, the news of the separation of Zverev and his coach made headlines. This was preceded by clear criticism from Zverev of the 59-year-old's attitude to work. Lendl had trained the German hopeful since the US Open last year and won the ATP final with him in November. However, things didn't go well recently; Zverev failed in the first round at Wimbledon.

Meanwhile, Basilashvili's winning streak continued in Hamburg. The world number 16. celebrated its ninth win in a row and can hope for a successful defense of its title. In the final on Sunday, the 27-year-old will face Russian Andrei Rublew, who beat Pablo Carreno Busta from Spain 4:6, 7:5 and 6:1. Rublev had already eliminated top seed Dominic Thiem (Austria) in the quarterfinals.
