Why is the race so hard? On the one hand, because the athletes complete an incredible 3,8 km swimming, 180 km on the bike and 42,195 km on foot. The difference to other races, however, is the strong currents in the water, the harsh winds on the bike course and the sweltering heat in the final marathon run. Are the participants even prepared for this? That remains to be seen, at least they are doing everything they can to achieve it. World champion Patrick Lange, for example, completes 16.000 km on the bike in training every year, plus 900 km in the water and 2700 on foot. There are also countless hours in the weight room. How many calories do you burn during such an ordeal? Around 11.000, depending on external factors such as wind and temperature. In order to survive this, athletes have to constantly replenish their reserves - including just under a kilogram of carbohydrates. Is it possible to predict who will win in the end? Actually not, but experience from the past few years suggests: It will be a German. For a long time, Jan Frodeno twice and Sebastian Kienle once ensured four German successes in a row. A total of six German triathletes have already entered the winners' lists. Frodeno is missing this year due to injury. When does the race start? At 18.35:6.35 p.m. South Tyrol time, i.e. 3.00:XNUMX a.m. local time. The day starts much earlier for the athletes - they will probably be at the starting area around XNUMX a.m. and prepare everything for their big goal. How many athletes will enjoy the “fun”?
