Kaltern in triathlon fever

As in previous years, the triathlon in Kaltern will be held over the Olympic distance (1,5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running). Around 600 athletes from home and abroad take part in the Lake Kaltern Triathlon every year.

“This year we don't want to set a new participation record, so registrations have been stopped at 600 athletes. Like every year, we are trying to organize a triathlon at a very high international level, but in which everyone can take part - even those who are less trained," explains OC boss Werner Maier.

Also taking part this year are the two South Tyrolean figureheads in triathlon Daniel Hofer, who was crowned winner in Kaltern in 2011, and young talent Matthias Steinwandter, who competed in the men's competition alongside Giulio Molinari (Italy), Sergiy Kurochkin (Ukraine) and Toth Tamas (Hungary) are among the favorites.

In the women's race, however, victory will probably only come over the Hungarian Erika Csomor. She has won the Powerman in Zofingen several times and came fourth at the Ironman in Hawaii in 2008.

The Kalterer Triathlon sports club will be the most represented in terms of numbers with 14 athletes. The “oldies” among the South Tyrolean triathletes, such as Manuela Janesi and Werner Überbacher, will also be at the start at the 25th edition.

In total, the local athletes celebrated six successes at the international triathlon competition in Übertetsch. In addition to Daniel Hofer, Manuela Janesi from Brixen (three wins), Astrid Perathoner from Bolzano and Edith Niederfriniger from Merano (one success each) also made the list of winners.
