Sandra Mairhofer on the podium in Transylvania

Sandra Mairhofer won the bronze medal in the cross triathlon in Transylvania as part of the European Multisport Championships. The 26-year-old from Taisten was only beaten by winner Morgane Riou (FRA) and her teammate Eleonora Peroncini, who won the gold medal at the World Cross Triathlon World Championships in April.

In the men's race, Ruben Ruzafa from Spain secured the gold medal, ahead of Tim Van Hemel (BEL) and Arthur Serrieres (FRA).

The young South Tyrolean Manuel Streiter had bad luck in the junior race. While mountain biking, the Kalterer collided with a spectator, Streiter sustained bruises and was unable to finish the race. The Kalterer native is expected to be at the start again at the duathlon next week.

In the cross triathlon in Romania, athletes had to swim one kilometer, mountain bike 23,4 kilometers and run 6,2 kilometers on a forest path. Steinwandter eighth in the European Cup Matthias Steinwandter from Innichen finished the European Cup sprint in Holten in a good 8th place. In the end, the hectic course of the race proved to be Steinwandter's undoing: “The swimming was like a fight, really brutal.” During the subsequent 20-kilometer bike ride, Steinwandter was in a leading group of eight, while three triathletes immediately fled to the front during the run. The chasing group with the Innich native was able to close the gap, but on the last lap the 3-year-old was no longer able to keep up with the pace and crossed the finish line in 25th place. “I'm very happy, my form is good,” said Steinwandter, who will complete two weeks of altitude training in St. Moritz in July.
