Triathlon Junior European Cup in Caorle

Four triathletes from the Brixen Swimming Club got a starting ticket for the Junior European Cup on May 13th and 14th in the Italian holiday resort of Caorle. Debutante Pia Fischer (2006), Lukas Lanzinger (2004), Sebastian Weissteiner (2003) and Euan De Nigro (2004) were allowed to take part in the international racing series.

The two races were held over the super sprint distances of 300 meters swimming, 10 kilometers cycling and 2 kilometers running. In the preliminary heats on Friday, the Brixen athletes fought for a ticket to the final. The best seven from each heat qualified directly for the finals, plus the two fastest athletes. De Nigro and Weissteiner catapulted themselves straight into the final round, Lukas Lanzinger was slowed down by stomach problems and missed taking part in the final.

Pia Fischer made her international debut in Caorle and was able to qualify for the final, where she was the first to get out of the water after an excellent swimming performance. When it came to running, she couldn't quite keep up with the fastest and ultimately came in a good 20th place overall.

Euan De Nigro showed significant improvement in swimming and switched to the bike in second place. Weissteiner followed not far behind and was able to catch up with the seven-man leading group thanks to a strong bike performance. After a quick change, De Nigro broke away right at the beginning of the run and celebrated his first victory in the European Cup. Bigger goals are just around the corner Thanks to this triumph, De Nigro qualified for the Junior World Championships in Montreal in June. The Junior European Championships in Poland are on the agenda for the Brixen triathlete at the end of May.

Lukas Lanzinger, weakened by illness, had reason to be happy despite a botched race; the national coach called him into the squad for the Cross Triathlon World Championships in Romania.
