Verena Steinhauser on the podium in Lausanne!

After a 1,8km swim, Steinhauser came out of Lake Geneva in 18th place, just under a minute behind the leading top favorite Nicola Spirig.

On the demanding bike route, Steinhauser caught up with the leading group after a few kilometers. Spirig and two-time junior world champion Taylor Knibb (USA) pulled away while running. The Swiss Spirig, who was crowned the sole record European champion at the European Championships, once again delivered a demonstration of power and prevailed 51 seconds ahead of Knibb. Verena Steinhauser from Brixen came third, 1,14 minutes behind Spirig. This is her second World Cup podium in just a few weeks. In mid-June, Steinhauser was also third on the podium at the Sprint World Cup in Antwerp. The second woman from Brixen in the race, Lisa Schanung, did not finish.

For Nicola Spirig it was the 20th World Cup victory, and with third place Verena Steinhauser is well in the race for a starting place at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

In the men's race, Norwegian Gustav Iden beat Briton Jonathan Bownlee in the finish sprint. There were no triathletes from South Tyrol at the start.
