Father of abuse victim attacks scandal doctor Nassar in court

Charlotte (SID) In the abuse trial against former US gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar, a father of three victims tried to attack the defendant during the hearing on Friday. But three bailiffs were able to pull the man to the ground and overpower him. Nassar was temporarily taken out of the room and the trial continued after a 20-minute break. The verdict is due to be announced on Monday. After two of his daughters testified against the former USA Gymnastics team doctor, Randall Margraves asked Judge Janice Cunningham for "five minutes in a closed room with this demon." When the judge refused, he asked for just a minute with the doctor. Cunningham also refused this, after which Margraves attacked Nassar. “I want that son of a bitch,” Margraves yelled as he was handcuffed. As he was being led away, he added: "What if this happened to you?" After apologizing to the judge, Margraves was subsequently released. "I'm ashamed. I'm not here to push my daughters into the background," he said: "I've lost control, I apologize a hundred times." At the beginning of the hearing, which lasted several days on Thursday, the judge spoke of more than 265 victims of Nassar's abuse. At least 65 of them are willing to testify against the former US team doctor. The 54-year-old was sentenced last week by a court in Lansing, Michigan, to a prison sentence of between 40 and 175 years. In response, a few days later, the entire board of the national professional association USA Gymnastics resigned under pressure from the National Olympic Committee.
