Adam Peaty shocks competition with world record

The Olympic champion shocked the competition in the semi-finals of the 100 m breaststroke with a winning time of 56,88 seconds. The 24-year-old was 22 hundredths of a second below his own record, which he set last year at the European Championships in Glasgow. He was the first person to break the “sound barrier” of 1 seconds.

Kraul bronze to Gabriele Detti Olympic champion Sun Yang, who is suspected of doping, won the 400 m freestyle title at the World Swimming Championships in South Korea. The case is scheduled to be heard by the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in September. Sun Yang was already banned for three months in 2014 for doping. Ledecky “only” silver World Cup series winner Katie Ledecky suffered a surprising defeat. The five-time Olympic champion lost to 400-year-old Australian Ariarne Titmus in the 18 meter freestyle on Sunday. After 3:58,76 minutes she finished ahead of Ledecky, who had won the last three world championship titles over this route. Leah Smith from the USA came third.
