3 Burggräfler slalom canoeists paddle for World Cup medals in Krakow

Matthias and Jakob Weger still have a score to settle with the Krakow Art Channel. Three years ago, the U23 and U18 Canoe Slalom World Championships were by no means a success for the canoe brothers from Schenna. The older of the Weger brothers was already eliminated in the qualifying for the U23 kayak singles. Matthias Weger, who is again competing for the Austrian Canoe Association, is starting in Krakow for the last time in the U23 in three disciplines, the kayak single, the kayak single team run and the extreme slalom cross.

“I prepared well for my last U23 World Cup. The times in training are good. The route suits me well too. In the qualifying I will try to get a clean run and make it to the semi-finals,” says Matthias Weger. “After the team medals almost two weeks ago at the European Championships in Liptovsky Mikulas and at the World Championships last year in Ivrea, we are expecting a good result again in Krakow,” hopes Schenner. His brother Jakob is the defending champion in the U23 kayak singles. “As always, my goal is to make it to the finals. Then everything is possible,” believes Jakob Weger. After fourth place in Liptovsky Mikulas, Jakob Luther wants to get on the podium in his last major canoe slalom event in the U18 kayak single sculls in Krakow. “I feel in good shape and want to have a solid qualifying run to qualify for the semi-finals and final on Saturday. “I have prepared very well for this race and hope to be able to deliver my performance in the race,” says Jakob Luther from Merano. “This time I would like to be on the podium in the kayak one-team race,” says the youngest of the Burggräfler slalom canoeists “.
