It's over in the quarterfinals

Weger had himself qualified for the round of 16 on Wednesday . In the final races on Sunday he initially cleared the first hurdle, but the South Tyrolean canoeist was bitterly eliminated in the slalom cross quarter-finals.

The finals were always four-way competitions. The 4 canoeists start from a 6 meter high ramp towards the water, where they then have to negotiate the slalom gates. Collisions between the canoeists often occur. That's what happened to Matthias Weger: For a long time he was in second place behind the eventual world champion Stefan Hengst from Germany until he was rammed sideways by the Slovenian Tine Kanzler and lost all his momentum. In the slalom cross competition, Weger only managed a top 2 place; on Wednesday, Weger finished 16th in the cross trail runs.

Italian Championships in Verona Meanwhile, the SC Meran canoeists achieved good placings at the U16 and Master Italian Championships in Verona. In the U16 competitions, Tamara Drescher and Paul Tirler both achieved third place and won bronze. Among the Merano master canoeists there were 3 Italian champions to celebrate: Markus Hager, Walter Weger, Hansjörg Mayr and Georg Hager were unbeatable in their age groups. In the additional national races for the younger age groups, Lars Aaron Senoner, Annika Zoe Senoner, Noah Schwazer, Julian Drescher and Julian Schermer were each able to achieve a podium place.

At the Canoe Slalom Cross World Championships in the Czech capital Prague, canoeist Matthias Weger from Schenna advanced to the quarter-finals, but was eliminated there.
