Jakob Luther is the best local hero on the Passer

At the world ranking canoe slalom on the Passer in Meran on Sunday, none of the local heroes managed to paddle onto the podium in the kayak single sculls. In the semi-final run, Jakob Weger came in second, Jakob Luther in fifth and Matthias Weger in eighth qualified for the final run in the men's kayak single sculls. All 3 Burggräflers were undone by goal errors in the final run. They passed at least one goal incorrectly and received a 50-second penalty for it. The Frenchman Yves Prigent won in 91,27 seconds without penalty seconds ahead of the German Samuel Hegge (91,64/4 penalty seconds) and the Frenchman Thomas Durand (France/92,14/2 penalty seconds). Jakob Luther (141,69/50 penalty seconds), Matthias Weger (142,16/52) and Jakob Weger (239,39/154) landed in 7th, 8th and 10th place.

“Despite the goal error, I am quite happy with my performance, especially that I reached the final. At gate number 15 I risked a little too much to be at the front. The 50 seconds penalty for goal number 15 was a bit doubtful, but I have to accept it,” said Jakob Luther. “I was very fast. Without penalty seconds I would have even won the world ranking canoe slalom. The 50 seconds penalty was a bit controversial,” believes Matthias Weger. “It's a shame the form would have been right this time. I performed very well in the qualifying and semi-finals. In the final run I made a line error, came out of gate number 15 too flat and then was no longer able to drive through gates number 16 and 17,” Jakob Weger regrets.

In the remaining 3 boat classes there were 2 Italian victories and the victory of a slalom canoeist from Australia. “This year, the world ranking canoe slalom in Meran was a big challenge for us both in terms of organization and for the canoeists themselves because of the high water level. There were numerous Eskimo rolls, even a capsizing in the semi-finals. A canoeist sustained a shoulder injury. But something like that can happen in sport. This year we had a lot of spectators who were able to witness very spectacular and exciting races at the race track and on the bridge,” said organizing committee boss Walter Weger.
