Jakob Weger celebrates his longed-for success

Jakob Weger had only won the U23 Italian championship title in the canoe slalom for the third time this season. At the U3 European Canoe Slalom Championships in Liptovsky Mikulas (Slovakia) and the World Championships in Krakow (Poland), he only had disappointing results with places 23 and 21 in the kayak single sculls and places 20 and 6 in the K22 team run. At the Italian Canoe Slalom Championships in Mezzana, Schenner finally showed his true capabilities again.

After winning the gold medal on Saturday in the K1 team run with Zeno Ivadli and Stefano Cipressi for the marine sports group, Weger had to come second yesterday in the kayak single final run in 91,29 seconds, only to be bowed to by his teammate Zeno Ivaldi (89,64). He was able to safely leave behind Giovanni De Gennaro, Italy's currently strongest slalom canoeist in the kayak single sculls. De Gennaro took bronze. For the Canoe Slalom World Championships at the end of September in La Seu D'Urgell (Spain), only two starting places in the kayak single sculls have been awarded to Ivaldi and De Gennaro. Although Weger's performance has so far not qualified him for the World Cup, his result in Mezzana could have brought him back into contention for a World Cup ticket.

“I am very happy to have achieved a good result in Mezzana after a season that has not been so successful so far,” said Jakob Weger happily. “On Saturday we were able to complete a good team run and started the race weekend very well. “Today I managed to get to the finish line with a clean and fast run without touching the gate,” explains Weger.

With Valentin Luther, Jakob Luther and Markus Hübner, three canoeists from SC Meran/Torggler also made it into the kayak one-man final. Valentin Luther (3) came ninth, his cousin Jakob Luther (97,11) came twelfth with 97,47 penalty seconds and Markus Hübner finished 2th with a good performance. In the kayak single team run, these three canoeists took fifth place for SC Meran/Torggler.

Jakob Weger celebrates his longed-for success

Jakob Weger has returned to the road to success by winning silver in the individual kayak single race and gold in the K1 team race at the Canoe Slalom Italian Championships on the Noce in Mezzana am Sulzberg after a season that has not been particularly successful so far.
