Jakob Weger paddles onto the podium in the home race

Jakob Weger missed second place on Saturday at the 66th international canoe slalom in Merano by just a hundredth of a second. The Frenchman Anatoli Delassus achieved two fastest running times and won the supreme discipline, the men's kayak single sculls, in 82,92 seconds, 0,59 seconds ahead of his compatriot Pierre Louis Saussereau and 0,60 seconds ahead of Weger. Fourth place went to the Frenchman Benjamin Renia, who set the fastest time in the first round but received a 1-second penalty for the last missed goal. Although the European Canoe Slalom Championships are taking place in Litovsky Mikulas (Slovakia) at the same time, the event in Meran is very well attended. With the French Anatole Delassus, Benjamin Renia and Simon Hehne, the Slovenian Zan Jakse and the Swiss Manuel Munsch, there are some top-class slalom canoeists at the start in Meran who were unable to qualify for the European Championships. “I am very happy with my third place. It's a shame that I missed second place by just a hundredth of a second. My technique has remained the same as last year. “It’s just that my physical fitness has decreased a little,” said Weger. The second best slalom canoeist from SC Meran/Raika-Torggler was Jakob Luther in twelfth place. “For my little preparation, I can be more than happy with 12th place. In the male junior (U18) kayak single, Xabier Ferrazzi, the son of 1992 Olympic champion Pier Poaolo Ferrazzi, won with the fourth best time of the day of 83,77 seconds ahead of the Slovenian Ziga Lin Hocevar (85,76) and the German Luis Erschig (87,07). The winner of the women's canoe sculls was the Frenchwoman Angele Hug, who after winning the kayak sculls also won the canoe sculls. The favorite has to take a back seat In the women's kayak, the French Angele Hug was able to prevail today in 92,51 seconds, 32 hundredths of a second ahead of the favorite Amalie Hilgertova (92,80) from the Czech Republic with two penalty seconds and the Italian Chiara Sabattini (92,84). All three paddlers were faster in the second run than in the first. The time of the second run was then taken into account. Carolin Celina Schaller from Augsburg, who has been paddling for SC Meran since last year, also put herself in the spotlight. The native of Merano took sixth place with 96,54 seconds. Tamara Drescher from SC Meran (104,31) came in eleventh and was particularly satisfied with her second run. The German Lucie Krech (18) won the kayak one for the female juniors (U97,37). The three SCM paddlers Annika Senoner (3), Alice Gravino (145,59) and Elina Schlechtleitner (145,82) landed in 165,60th, 10th and 11th place in their first start at the international canoe slalom in Merano. One of the men won today, the Czech Jan Vetrovsky (13) ahead of the French Jules Benardet (87,86) and Lucas Roisin (88,62). The junior winner in the Canadian single sculls was the Slovenian Ziga Lin Hocevar (89,91). On Sunday a world ranking canoe slalom will take place on the Passer for the seventh time.
